GTA 6 PC requirements: not out yet

Rockstar hasn't published any, because it hasn't announced a PC version. Twice now, though, its recommended PC spec has landed near the console version it followed. If that holds, budget for roughly a PS5's worth of graphics card, and more if you want 60 fps.

Where your card lands

Our rough estimates, with a PS5 = 100. We peg the PS5 at an RTX 2070 Super, the usual rule of thumb. Digital Foundry's best-known test put the PS5 about 10% ahead of that card, so our scale is a little generous and anything near the line is borderline.

Cardvs PS5Our check says
GTX 1650about 40%Below PS5Try it
GTX 1060 6 GBabout 47%Below PS5Try it
RTX 3050about 60%Below PS5Try it

Below a PS5 doesn't have to mean it won't start. Red Dead's minimum card, a GTX 770, sat well below the Xbox One X, and GTA 6 also has to run on the Xbox Series S, a much weaker console than the PS5. Expect low settings.

Neither recommended card is an exact console match, but both sit in the neighbourhood. GTA V's HD 7870 is clearly above the PS4's graphics chip on paper, with more shader cores (1,280 to 1,152) at a higher clock. For Red Dead, Shacknews found that Xbox One X-equivalent settings ran at a smooth 60 fps on an RX 580 or GTX 1060, at 1080p rather than the One X's 4K. Rockstar's list said GTX 1060 or RX 480.

Memory tracked the console totals: 8 GB for GTA V, the PS4's amount, and 12 GB for Red Dead, the Xbox One X's. That isn't like for like, since a console shares its memory with graphics. Rockstar asked for more processor, though: both recommended chips were well ahead of the low-power ones in the PS4 and Xbox One X.

The console GTA 6 is built for

GTA 6 comes out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026. The PS5 has an 8-core AMD Zen 2 processor at up to 3.5 GHz, 16 GB of shared GDDR6 memory and an SSD rated at 5.5 GB/s.

In Digital Foundry's Assassin's Creed Valhalla test, the PS5 performed close to an RX 5700 XT, with an RTX 2070 Super about 10% behind and an RTX 2060 Super about 20% behind. DF estimated it would take an RTX 2080 Super or 3060 Ti to match. That's one game, and partly an estimate.

Going by the strongest console, as the Red Dead column does, the bar is the PS5 Pro, which is higher again. Rockstar hasn't said what the Pro version adds.

Rockstar is currently targeting 30 fps on console, according to Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North, in a YouTuber's interview that Vice relayed in August. He couldn't say whether a 60 fps mode is coming. You'll want 60 on PC, and that's a lot more card than a console running at 30.

Our guess at GTA 6's recommended PC spec

Our extrapolation, not Rockstar's policy. We'll swap in Rockstar's list when it lands.

When the real list lands

Red Dead's PC requirements were out by 10 October 2019, within a week of the PC announcement and almost four weeks before launch. We'll post GTA 6's here the day they appear, and anyone on the GTA 6 PC alert who saved a PC gets them next to their parts.
